Defeating negativity on supply chains for world’s masters of flat-pack.

Challenge

How can you show a company tackles ethical issues with credibility and care? IKEA’s complex supply chain has faced challenges, from chemicals in paint finishes to child labour in carpet sourcing. In collaboration with Context, we were asked to create communications showing employees and suppliers how seriously IKEA responds, and where to find guidance when issues arise.

Solution

Working with a designer, coder and filmmaker, we created an immersive website explaining IKEA’s supplier code of conduct. Built around real-world problems, product visuals and expert interviews, it used a story-led approach. We wrote the script, filmed at IKEA’s museum in Småland, Sweden, and worked with archivists to source assets.

Impact

Used internationally across IKEA, the site reached a potential audience of 220,000 employees and many supplier partners. Fast and immersive, it helped people understand how IKEA responds to issues and linked them to key resources.
